Life after College

There are many typical things said by and said to a young post-grad. I will not regurgitate those things. Rather, I will indulge you with what things a post-grad is thinking in the modern era.

Since leaving college, my world is opening up further to the possibilities of life. No, I do not have a job currently but I am figuring out and rediscovering a lot of things about myself. Reading is one of those things. With an abundant amount of free time, I started reading again. At first I read a few historical novels about Louisiana, New Orleans and the French Quarter which were fascinating. (The French Quarter by Herbert AsburyThe World that made New Orleans: from Spanish silver to Congo Square by Ned Sublette)

History fascinates me. Everything from the geography of each piece of history to the impressive family lineages detailed throughout history. Throughout my life I find myself reading and rereading the family lineage and intricacies of Henry VIII’s line. It is even bookmarked on my computer. (http://www.britroyals.com/royaltree.htm)

Naturally when I started The Witching Hour by Anne Rice I rejoiced in the combination of history, detailed geography and an impressive lineage. I am completely captivated with the novel when I hold it. I wonder if I can develop enough creativity to make and write about a world of my own invention. A new world takes commitment and such tenacity. I am worried that I would not believe myself or in the world that I create and it would not be believable before it is even written! How did Tolkien devise the Shire, Rowling the wizarding world, Lewis Narnia and/or Anne Rice each secret society? The world within each story is fantastical and a story unto itself!
